City Scholarships

Details:

Exclusive City Scholarship to be awarded to at least 20 Queen’s University students keen to pursue a successful career in Law or Finance in the City of London. The one week placement will take place over five days: Monday 10 - Friday 14 June 2013. In addition, there will be placements in Dublin and Liverpool, whilst three students will be selected for a two-week placement in New York.

Aim:

To provide students with an exclusive insight and active learning opportunity in the City of London. The experiences gained and professional contacts secured should ensure greater understanding of the personal skills and application required to compete for top graduate roles in the City.

Learning Objectives:

  • Network with senior professionals, recruitment specialists, recent graduates and alumni
  • Understand the quality required in applications for internships
  • Differentiate the firms; cultures, practice areas and career opportunities
  • Participate in group-work and case studies that practise the skills and attitude required to succeed in the world of finance
  • Develop self-awareness of personal suitability to be a ‘City’ financier/ lawyer in a global firm.
  • Demonstrate your employability skills through designing and delivering City Leadership Group events for students at Queen’s

Eligibility:

The experience is open to Level One Queen’s undergraduate registered students of any discipline and to Level Two students on a 4-year undergraduatemasters pathway. Students should have a demonstrable high level of academic achievement with a minimum of 320 UCAS tariff points (ie: ABB at A Level, no specific subjects).

Financial Award:

£750 to assist with the cost of flights, airport transfers and accommodation.

Request an Application Form by emailing cityleadershipgroup@qub.ac.uk. Completed forms must be emailed to cityleadershipgroup@qub.ac.uk.and received by no later than 12noon on Monday, 18 March 2013.

Information sessions:

Tuesday 26 and Thursday 28 February at 1.30pm in the Enterprise centre in the Students' Union. 

Student interns from the previous summer will share their experiences and be available to answer your questions.

Selection:

Applicants will be assessed, graded and ranked through the information provided in the application form. Shortlisted applicants will be advised by email if they are being called for interview which will take place on Friday 22 March. All successful students are required to attend a pre-departure workshop and a debriefing session on dates to be confirmed.
