Dragons' Den 2013 Winners

5 June 13

The winners of ‘Dragons’ Den’ were announced at a pitch event on Wednesday 8 May where an impressive £3,500 was awarded.

The aim of the annual competition is to encourage students from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences to submit a business plan regarding a new venture that they think could be successful.  This could be a production, performance, publication, campaign, event or business.

Five students Lisa Boedt, Elizabeth Whitehouse, Morgan McKinnon-Snell, Thom Dickerson and Catherine Potter went home worthy winners with a cash prize for their idea.

Lisa and Elizabeth pitched their idea of marking the Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January 2014 by organising several talks from survivors.  The team explained that they wanted to highlight the importance of mutual understanding and respect amongst all human beings, starting with those closest and most accessible.

Morgan and Thom pitched their start-up fashion and art based brand/gallery ‘The Gallery Clothing Company’ which is based around the idea of exhibiting local and successful artists and photographer’s artwork on clothing items, namely t-shirts.  The company’s mission is to aid up-and-coming artists in their prospective careers by providing exposure.

Catherine Potter pitched her ‘Little Treats and Traybakes’ business, specialising in selling homemade traybakes in local London markets.  It seeks to appeal to customers by creating a strong brand image that reinforces the company’s values of home-baked, wholesome food that can be enjoyed by all the family.
