QUB's Got Talent - 'Twice' is nice!

3 May 13

‘QUB’s Got Talent’, one of the largest events in the Queen’s Students’ Union calendar, took place on Thursday 25 April in the Mandela Hall.  The night, which was sponsored by The Signature Works and in aid of Simon Community NI, would no doubt have been the envy of Mr Cowell as it saw over 500 guests in attendance and a line-up of eleven outrageously talented and varied acts – from dancers, vocalists and musicians, to slam poets and comedians!

The event was filled to the brim with VIP glitz and glamour with red carpets, hosts and hostesses dressed to the nines, both VIP and Red Bull drinks receptions, a raffle with fabulous prizes including overnight stays with Hastings Hotels, glorious goodie bags, the three formidable buzzers, local celebrities Malachi Cush as Host and Julian Simmons on the judging panel, and performances from ‘Major Sixth’, a Queen’s ‘Les Miserables’ ensemble and of course from the 11 acts competing for victory.

Hannah Lynch and Matthew Flanagan of vocalist and pianist duo ‘Twice’ blew both the Judges and audience away, walking away with the prestigious title of winners of QUB’s Got Talent 2013 and the £1,000 prize.

Hannah said: “When we were called as the winners I couldn’t believe it – I still can’t! I feel so privileged to have been involved in the event and to have met so many great people.  Honestly, it was one of the most terrifying but rewarding things I’ve ever done!  It’s an unforgettable experience!”

Matthew then went on to say: “We were astonished and amazed to learn that we won. Walking away with a cash prize and invitations to perform at various upcoming prestigious events!  It was an excellent event to be part of and I have never seen a greater array of talent displayed at Queen’s during my time at the University.”

With a number of success stories from last year’s event, such as 2012 winners ‘Major Sixth’ securing management, recording and shooting a music video, we can’t wait to see where this year’s ‘QUB’s Got Talent’ takes the winning pair!
