SPEAK UP! NSS 2013!

10 April 13

Student representation and feedback are used at every level when making key decisions at Queen’s University Belfast. Feedback from former students was integral to each of the improvements made in 2011/12, and now it's your turn.

The National Student Survey (NSS) is one of the most important opportunities for you to provide feedback about your time at Queen’s. Your feedback will contribute to the continued success of the University, helping to improve the Queen’s experience and boost the reputation of the University as having a leading student experience.

What is the NSS?

  • It is a high profile annual census of nearly half a million students across the UK, which gives YOU a powerful collective voice to help shape the future of your course and Queen’s University.* Ipsos MORI, an independent research company, conducts the survey.
  • The National Student Survey (NSS) 2013 is now live at Queen’s University Belfast. The survey is open to mostly final year undergraduates.  If you have received an invitation email you can complete the survey today at www.thestudentsurvey.com

Reasons to take part

  • Why is the National Student Survey so important and why should you take ten minutes of your time to complete it?

Improve the Queen’s experience

  • The NSS is an important opportunity to provide honest feedback to the University. This feedback will be used to improve the Queen’s experience for future generations of students.
  • The questions allow you to provide feedback on a range of topics, including what you thought about the Academic Support you received during your studies and how you felt about theOrganisation and Management of your course. There is also space at the end for any positive and/or negative comments you have about your experience. Were you satisfied with the way cancelled lectures were communicated? What were your thoughts on the advice and support available through your course? Write it down and let us know!
  • At Queen’s, results are taken very seriously.  We use the NSS results to help us improve student services and facilities, learning and teaching and the wider student experience.

Help employers and prospective students

  • Data from the NSS is also used by employers looking to assess the academic quality of the University, and by prospective students deciding where to study.

It's supported by Students' Unions

  • Queen’s Students' Union and the NUS both support the NSS and want all students to take part. It gives them evidence to pressure universities for change. Every year the Union works with the University to encourage students to take part.

Finally... why not?

  • The survey is completely anonymous.  No one at Queen’s will know if you have responded or how you have responded.  No results are published which would allow you to be identified.
  • There’s no need to worry about your contact details being passed on.  They will only be used for the purposes of the NSS and are destroyed shortly after.
  • It only takes five minutes and you could win an iPad!*

You may opt out of the survey at any time during the field work by contacting nss@ipsos.com
