Rate your University

18 February 14

The National Student Survey 2014 is now open and it’s the perfect opportunity for you to tell the University what you honestly think about your time at Queen’s.

What’s the NSS?

It’s a high profile annual survey of nearly half a million students across the UK, which gives YOU a huge voice to help shape the future of your course and Queen’s University. Ipsos MORI, an independent research company, conducts the survey. The survey is open to mostly final year undergraduates.

Reasons to take part

1. The University will use your feedback to:

  • Make sure that they keep doing the good stuff and fix the stuff that you think needs to be sorted, for you and other students
  • Boost the reputation of the University, meaning your degree means a whole heap more to future employers – helping you land your dream job when you leave

2. Your Student Officer Education can also use your feedback:

  • At important University Committee meetings to make sure that the stuff that’s important to you, gets raised and sorted
  • To make sure that you have a say in how your course and School is run and put the University under pressure to stand up, listen, and take action

3. There is a heap of questions which allow you to provide honest feedback on lots of topics.

Finally... why not?

  • The survey is completely anonymous. No one at Queen’s will know if you’ve responded or what you’ve said. No results are published which would allow you to be identified
  • There’s no need to worry about your contact details being passed on. They will only be used for the purposes of the NSS and are destroyed shortly after
  • It only takes five to ten minutes to complete and you could win an iPad Mini*
  • And, you can opt out of the survey at any time during the field work by contacting nss@ipsos.com

How have we done in the past?

Last year, Queen’s scooped its highest score of 90% for overall satisfaction which has resulted in the University being ranked 12th in the UK (excluding further education and specialist institutions). Since the survey began, the scores that students have given the University have risen, showing that it works!

The University and your Students’ Union have listened to what you said and worked together to change the stuff that’s important to you:

  • The McClay Library has 200 additional seats, enhanced the student lounge & improved self-service & other facilities for students
  • It has increased library opening hours & longer periods of 24 hour opening ahead of exams
  • Wireless access will be extended to all parts of the campus during 2014 & 2015
  • Supporting assessment and feedback resulted in a 2% increase in the NSS score for this category
  • In 2012-13, approximately 7000 students attended Learning Development Service workshops
  • There is commitment to provide 90% of students with work experience opportunities
