What it's all about
QUBSU is proud to launch our LGBT+ History Month campaign and we'd love you to join us!
Across the UK LGBT+ History Month is a time to celebrate and reflect the contributions and achievements of the community to wider society, but also a time for allies to come together and practice solidarity in action, to mobilise against the attacks that LGBT+ people still face today. This month we hope to bring together the LGBT+ community and allies in Queen’s, together to learn, celebrate and amplify queer voices in Queen’s and beyond. Light refreshments will be provided.

QUBSU is proud to launch our LGBT+ History Month Campaign with an evening of speeches and stellar performances by members of the LGBT+ community in QUB, as we celebrate and amplify the voices of the queer community both in Queen’s and in wider society in NI. The evening will be a taster of events we have planned for the month ahead that aim to explore the history of and celebrate the Queer community in QUB and beyond!

Disability in Queer spaces - Tue, Feb 11, 17:30

In discussions around LGBT+ identities it is imperative that we engage in intersectional conversations around sexuality and other identities. The LGBT+ community is an incredibly diverse community with people from all walks of life. Join us for an evening of thought-provoking conversation on disability in Queer spaces with Alannah Murray. Alannah is a postgraduate researcher currently studying cultural appropriation in film. She has experience talking about the intersection between disability and LGBT+ identity, as well as a passionate advocate for open dialogue around sexuality & disability. Light refreshments will be provided.

It's movie night in the SU! Come join us as we celebrate LGBT+ filmmakers, their unique perspectives and stellar work. In an evolving society the representation of LGBT+ people in the film industry as well as queer filmmaking and its social contexts are incredibly important for us to recognise and support. LGBT+ Activism in NI - Mon, Feb 17, 18:00

Northern Ireland holds an interesting place in LGBT+ history and activism. Come join us for a roundtable of fantastic LGBT+ activists in NI across generations and communities, to learn about the different fights that have been fought and won, and the battles that still remain to be won. Dr Jamie Hagen is an academic whose research is at the intersection of gender, security studies and queer theory. I research LGBTQ inclusion in Women, Peace and Security practices as well as queer analysis of security studies more broadly. Join us as we explore queer research methodology with Dr Hagen, and hear from students of QUB involved in queer research. Light refreshments will be provided.

Queer at Queen's - Thu, Feb 27, 18:30

Queen's is the largest and oldest higher education institute in NI. As an institution with such rich history, it has always been a big influence in wider social conversations in NI. Its interesting to see the evolution of the intituition over the years into a place that has grown to embrace and accept its LGBT+ community, but its important to remember the struggles of the community in the past, while celebrating our present victories and also thinking about what's next for the LGBT+ community in Queen's. Join QUBSU and QUB's LGBT Staff Network, PRISM, as we host a panel discussion featuring students and staff as we explore the past, present and future of the Queer community in QUB.
